Tonight at the 10th annual VGAs, in a flurry of trailers and news, Jessica Alba announced the existence of Dark Souls II, developed by FromSoftware in Tokyo.
The announcement came in the form of a CG trailer which featured an intriguing set of images. It began with a warrior in a thick wood, an armored hand covered in blood, a sunlit mountain cliff, and more. The trailer jumps from one scene to the next, following the warrior in his tireless, painful journey. At one point a cloaked woman interacts with the warrior, and can also be seen looking out upon a distant castle without name or purpose.
The warrior fights a variety of terrors during the video, including a group of masked figures, a dragon, and more. It ends with the warrior, covered in arrows, collapse to his knees as the sun sets before him.
A press release issued after the VGA announcement explains that Dark Souls II will feature a new character and a new storyline. It will also feature a "server-based multiplayer mode." Furthermore, the press release notes that "Dark Souls II will continue a legacy of goading its passionate fan base with unrelenting challenge and suffering that are considered a hallmark of the series; while presenting new devilishly devised obstacles for players to overcome."
Dark Souls II will be available for the PlayStation 3, PC, and the Xbox 360.
